The Four Rivers Center was originally designed to accommodate the Paducah Symphony Orchestra, which had up until its opening performed in an abandoned school auditorium. Numerous community members were so distraught by this that they banded together to raise money and open a brand new facility. Since then, it has attracted arts lovers from all over the state.
Named after the four rivers that meet in the region (including the Tennessee, Ohio, Cumberland and Mississippi), the Four Rivers Center is more popularly known these days as the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center, or simply the Carson Center. The name officially changed and the facility was opened in 2004, after many years of planning and fundraising.
