The Arena first opened on November 13, 1999 when the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins made their official debut. The arenas primary tenants are the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers of the Arena Football League. The arena has also played host to some of the biggest names in entertainment.
Bags are checked at every event and other security measures are also in place, but vary from event to event. The arena is a smoke free facility and there is absolutely no re-entry upon exit. Children under two years old are free for most events. The following items are prohibited in the arena: coolers, backpacks, bottles, cans, outside food or beverages, horns, whistles, banners, laser pens, video cameras or recording devices or illegal substances.
