The Robert A. Mott Gymnasium was inaugurated September 1960 and refurbished in 1998. The first game played in the gym was against Whittier on December 1, 1960. The Mott Gym is affectionately known as #28;The Asylum#29; or #28;The Big Ugly.#29; At its entrance display cases feature each of the recording setting 35 NCAA Team Championship trophies earned by Cal Poly prior to its Division 1 move.
The Mott Gym is California Polytechnic State University#25;s auditorium, home of the Mustangs men#25;s and women#25;s basketball teams. The multi-purpose arena holds over 3,000 seats. The facility includes the Cal Poly Athletics Hall of Fame, men and women#25;s locker rooms, the Mustang Strength Complex, the Cal Poly Athletics Academic Resource Center and administrative offices for Cal Poly coaches and support staff. The Cal Poly Mustang Athletic Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm and is located at the front of the Cal Poly Recreation Center on the corner of South Perimeter and Via Carta. Acceptable payment includes cash, check, Visa or MasterCard. The Mustang Ticket Office offers discounted rates for groups of 20 or more.
