New World Stages are constructed on the site of the former Madison Square Garden and cost an estimated $23 million to contruct. There are five distinct stages ranging in size from 199 to 499 seats; New World Stages / Stage 1 is the largest at 5,500 square feet with 499 seats. In its history, New World Stages has hosted over 27 Off-Broadway shows showcasing a variety of styles of performance.
Originally Dodger Stage, the New World Stages are thought of as the new face of Off-Broadway with new venues, five stages, new artists and new audiences. The venue is the second-most expensive complex of its kind and boasts boasts three full service bars, state-of-the-art climate control, large dressing rooms, and ample restrooms. New World Stages / Stage 1 is wheel chair accessible.
