On Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland, Ohio the theatre was built by Marcus Lowe's Ohio Theatres group and designed by Thomas W. Lamb with the Italian Renaissance style. The venue first opened in February 1921 with over 1,300 seats and has since changed styles. Following fire damage in the early '60s, the venue was redesigned, before a full restoration occurred in the early '80s.
The ticket office is located in the State Theatre Lobby, from 11am to 6pm on non-show days at 11am to 8:30pm on show days. Everyone must have a ticket regardless of age; children under the age of two are generally not permitted in theatres unless for specific, designated, performances. Cameras, camera phones, audios, video and digital recordings, cell phones and paging devices are not permitted inside the theatre. Outside food or beverage is not permitted inside theatre. The venue has wheelchair access. Refunds are not given.
