The area round Quicken Loans Arena got its start way back in the late 1800s, when the area was the center of the city, where the markets could be found. It remained a city center until the 1940s, when a fire gutted the area's buildings. That initiated a period of underuse in the area, until the 1990s, when an effort to revitalize the neighborhoods turned it into an entertainment district.
