The first Wakarusa
Music Festival was held in 2004 and brought in some big acts including O.A.R., Robert Randolph, Sound Tribe Sector 9, and
the North Mississippi All-Stars. The event was a success and the following year's event brought in even bigger name acts like
Wilco, Matisayhu, Umphree's McGee, the String Cheese Incident, and more. The first festival drew in tens of thousands music
fans to Lawrence, Kansas. Each year that number increases, and more indie rock and electronic music fans flock to the famous

From 2004 through 2008 Wakarusa Music Festival was held at Clinton State
Park just outside of Lawrence, Kansas but the venue could only hold 5,000 fans so in 2009 it was moved to Mulberry Mountain
in Ozark, Arkansas to accommodate the festival's increasing demand and now allows 20,000 guests. The move has allowed the
festival to grow and grow each year, annually attracting bigger bands and more music lovers through its gates.
