Walk the Moon Background
Walk the Moon consists of Nicholas Petricca, Kevin Ray, Sean Waugaman, and Eli Maiman.
Lead singer Petricca first tried forming the band in 2008, but couldn't seem to find the right musicians to complete the lineup.
Finally, in 2010 he recruited Ray, Waugaman, and Maiman, and the band's lineup was officially solidified. The four musicians
decided to call their group "Walk the Moon" after the Police's song "Walking on the Moon", and they quickly got to work writing
and practicing their own unique songs. In November 2010, Walk the Moon independently released its debut album, I Want! I Want!.
Even though the album did not rocket to the top of music charts, it did feature their biggest hit single to date—"Anna
This incredibly catchy indie rock song not only received major radio play, but it also earned incredible acclaim
from major media publications. Esquire named "Anna Sun" the song of the summer in 2011, and the single was also featured on
the Vampire Diaries and in American Eagle Outfitters video rotation. Because of this single, Walk the Moon started to generate
serious interest amongst music lovers all over the world, and they had already gained significant momentum before releasing
their self-titled album in 2012.
The album Walk the Moon was released in 2012, and in support of the album the group
performed on talk shows like Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Last Call with Carson Daly, and the Late Show with David Letterman.
Walk the Moon had quickly become one of the biggest indie rock bands in the world, and they have toured with bands like Grouplove,
