As the 2014 WNBA season gets underway the Washington Mystics will definitely be a team to keep an eye on. The 2013 season saw a big turnaround for the club as they won more games than the previous two seasons combined finishing 17-17. Similar improvement in 2014 will surely land the Mystics in the playoffs and there are high expectations and an air of excitement in D.C. this season. Fans will be clamoring for Mystics tickets in the D.C. area as this could be a season for the record books and you can expect the energy level at Verizon Center to be as high as ever throughout the 2014 season. Get in on all of the excitement that comes with Washington Mystics basketball right from the start this season with tickets from StubHub.

On May 30th Eastern Conference rivals the New York Liberty come to town. The Liberty are one of the most successful franchises in the WNBA and a win against them early in the season could make an important statement about the danger of this year's Mystics team. The Mystics will be taking on all of the top teams in the WNBA at Verizon Center this season including the Los Angeles Sparks, the Minnesota Lynx, the Phoenix Mercury, the Chicago Sky, the Atlanta Dream, the Connecticut Sun, the San Antonio Stars, the Indiana Fever, and the Tulsa Shock. Take a look at the schedule and get your tickets for an exciting Washington Mystics home game from StubHub today.

The Team

The Mystics will be looking to improve on a 2013 season that was one of the best in the franchise's history and marked a big turnaround for a franchise that has not earned double digit victory totals in either of the previous two years. The Mystics will have a strong backcourt featuring Ivory Latta with Tierra Ruffin-Pratt coming off the bench for additional firepower. The two guards could be one of the WNBA's highest scoring tandems this season. Of course dominant center Emma Meesseman will add to the scoring and also be cleaning up the boards on both the offensive and the defensive side. This could well be a banner year for the Washington Mystics and you will want to be on their bandwagon right from the start. Be sure to get your Washington Mystics tickets early because they have led the league in attendance several times and tickets for all of the best seats are sure to sell quickly.

The Experience

In recent years women's professional basketball has seen exponential growth in its popularity as evidenced by the crowds that fill the stands for each game. Verizon Center has become one of the most electric arenas in all of the WNBA and on game day the excitement in the air is enough to get even the most casual basketball fan out of their seat and cheering at the top of their lungs. When the two teams take the court for the opening tip off fans stand up and refuse to sit down until the home team scores. The game continues, full of back and forth action, big time shots, and clutch defensive stops. Before you know it the clock is winding down in the second half and the Liberty are wrapped up in yet another tight contest. Your palms get sweaty with each trip down the floor and each time a Mystics player lets loose a shot you hold your breath until the ball tickles the twine. This continues until the final buzzer when the crowd erupts after another important Washington win and the crowd flows out of the arena in jubilation.

Since its founding in 1996 the WNBA has seen incredible growth in popularity every year. Most of the teams in the WNBA have NBA counterparts, only the Connecticut Sun and the Seattle Storm play in cities which do not currently have NBA teams. When the league first started every team was owned by the NBA but as a sign of the growth of the league now both the Atlanta Dream and the Los Angeles Sparks are independently owned. The Houston Comets currently lead the way in terms of titles with four, although the Minnesota Lynx have won two, including two of the last three championships and could soon be giving the Comets a run for their money.

The Mystics joined the WNBA in 1998 and are owned by Ted Leonsis' Monumental Sports & Entertainment who also own the Washington Wizards of the NBA. As a testament to the support of the Mystics in the D.C. area the team led the league in attendance from 1998 through 2000 and again from 2002 through 2004 despite the team's early struggles. Some sports writers and fans have complained about the attendance banners hanging from the rafters next to retired Wizards and Capitals numbers as well as championship banners for the 1978 Washington Bullets and the 1984 Georgetown Hoyas, stating that banners hanging from the rafters should only be reserved for accomplishments made during play and that many of the Mystics tickets had been given away for free during that time, yet the banners remain.
