Nationals Update – Week of July 4

After some ups and downs earlier in the season, things started to fall into place in June for the Washington Nationals, as they enjoyed a red-hot month that catapulted them right into the running in the N.L. East. Though the Braves are also looking like a formidable foe, again, the Nats showed that they have as much talented as any team in the league during their nice stretch in June, proving that they can win at home or on the road no matter who they end up playing. Thanks to a balanced team loaded with some of the top young stars in the game and some savvy vets, the Nationals definitely look like a team that is going to be around to battle for a playoff spot throughout the rest of the season.

And one of the beautiful things about the Nationals is their balanced lineup, as three different batters are already over 40 RBIs on the season, which makes it very difficult on opposing pitchers from one game to the next. One of the leaders, of course, has been Adam LaRoche, who missed a bit of time but has been swinging a very hot stick when he's been on the field. With LaRoche holding an average well above.300 and an on-base well above.400, he's been giving them a major lift, as have both Ian Desmond and Anthony Rendon.

The Nationals are also pleased to welcome Bryce Harper back to the lineup, as the rising star missed quite a few games in May and June and just came back onto the field in time to start July. With a balanced offense, some strong pitching from Jordan Zimmerman and Stephen Strasburg and a strong defensive unit as well, the Nationals have been giving their fans plenty of reasons for optimism as they look to continue playing good baseball heading into the All-Star break.

2014 Washington Nationals Schedule

Thanks to one of the most talented young teams in the league, the Nationals are sure to give their fans plenty to cheer about this season as they once again take a run at the top of the N.L. East standings. The Nats won the National League East title two seasons ago, but finished as runners-up in 2013. The Nats are looking to get back to the top of their division, and they certainly have the talent to make it happen. To accomplish that goal, though, the Nats have to take care of business at home throughout the regular season, which holds a bevy of exciting matchups for baseball fans in the Washington D.C. area to enjoy. But even though the home games are must-sees, as Nationals Park is always loaded with passion, it's on the road where you'll get a completely different perspective of your favorite team as the Nats look to make it happen this season.

Of course, dominating in the division is a must, as the Nationals will surely be looking to play at the highest level every time the Atlanta Braves come to the nation's capital this season. The Braves won the NL East in 2013, and the Nats want revenge – pure and simple. The Braves come equipped with a well-rounded roster that boasts a deep pitching staff and a lineup featuring some hot bats. The Nationals can make a statement this season by defeating the Braves on a regular basis, signaling to the rest of the National League that they've regained their status as a contender for the N.L. pennant.

The Nats will host their other division rivals throughout the 2014 season as well. The New York Mets showed flashes of real potential last season, and they're not a team to be taken lightly when they come into the Washington D.C. The Nats have enough firepower to down the Mets as long as they stay focused and keep their eyes on the prize. Divisional matchups are always great games for fans to catch in person, as you can almost feel the tension on the field when you're there watching from the stands. From home games against divisional foes to road matchups against interleague rivals, this is another season filled with possibilities for Nats fans.

Washington Nationals Team Info

The Washington Nationals play in the National League East division of Major League Baseball, a division that also features the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins. The Nationals finished second in the division in 2013 after a 2012 season that saw the team finish atop the N.L. East standings. The Nats are looking to return to what they believe is their rightful place in the division in 2014, and they certainly have the talent to do so. If they can play well at home on a consistent basis, it will go a long way to approaching 90 to 100 wins, something this ball club is capable of. The Nats are hoping they can play well enough to return to the postseason this season through either the division title or a Wild Card berth. Led by Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg, this is a team that definitely isn't going to go quietly this season as they look to pile up the wins and give their fans plenty to cheer about.

These players are some of the most impressive athletes in the world, and what they can do on the diamond will leave you wanting more. Watching the game on TV pales in comparison to seeing baseball played live and in person. That's why so many fans head to their local stadiums throughout the season to see their favorite ball club on the diamond. Join the most dedicated Nationals fans in the stands this season to see just how good this Washington team really is in another year loaded with towering homers and nail-biting moments.

Washington Nationals History

The Washington Nationals franchise was founded in 1969 as the Montreal Expos. The franchise was moved to Washington D.C. in 2005 and has found a passionate fan base to support the team. The Nats struggled in their early years in the nation's capital, but have grown into a real contender in the National League as of late. The Nationals captured their first division title since moving to Washington in 2012, showing their fans what winning baseball looks like and giving their fans plenty to look forward into in an exciting era of baseball.

Washington Nationals Trivia

Who was the first manager of the Washington Nationals?

The answer is Hall-of-Famer Frank Robinson, one of the best hitters to ever play the game of baseball. Robinson won the MVP in both the A.L. and the N.L. and went to the All-Star Game 14 different times in the course of his career, including taking down the Triple Crown, the N.L. Rookie of the Year and even two World Series rings.

The Fans

When you head to a Major League Baseball game, you'll find yourself seated in a sea of some of the most passionate sports fans you've ever come across. Every baseball game is greeted by adoring fans that just want to root for the home team. This is no different when it comes to fans of the Washington Nationals, and you can see that for yourself when you head out to a game this season. Nationals Park has quickly came to be a major staple of the local sports scene around the nation's capital, making it the place to be whenever the Nationals take to the diamond. But even though home games are great, there is something special about seeing your favorite team take to the field on the road as well, as away matchups will give you a completely different perspective on your favorite team and show you that there is still nothing quite like baseball when it's played at the highest possible level.
