West Virginia Mountaineers Football Schedule

Morgantown, West Virginia, home of the West Virginia Mountaineers, is the place to be as the college football season gets underway. The Mountaineers play some of the best college football programs in the country as they battle against Big 12 foes including Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, and more. Last season did not go exactly according to plan but following an impressive spring ball session, expectations for the 2014 season have been elevated. Quarterback Clint Trickett appears to be recovering on schedule from his shoulder injury and is expected to be the starter when the season starts but he is also supported by two quality back ups who proved themselves in the spring and can step in should there be any setbacks. Overall there is a ton of depth on the 2014 West Virginia team which should help the team deal with any injuries like the ones that have plagued the Mountaineers during their first two seasons in the Big 12. One of the deepest positions on the squad is at running back where WVU has four solid players capable of carrying the ball out of the backfield. 2014 is shaping up to be a big year for the Mountaineers and they will be looking to get all of the support from their fans as possible during home games in Morgantown.

The first game of the year for the West Virginia Mountaineers could be one of the biggest in all of college football during the regular season as they will be part of the Chick-Fil-A Classic at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. This year's Chick-FIl-A Classic will take place on August 30th and will feature the West Virginia Mountaineers against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The eyes of the college football world will be on this game and the Mountaineers can make a big statement by knocking off the perennial favorite Alabama. September 20th will be the first Big 12 home game for WVU when the Oklahoma Sooners come to town. The Mountaineers will need to get as many home conference wins as they can if they hope to move up the Big 12 standings and the first home conference game is always crucial. October 18th brings defending Big 12 champions the Baylor Bears to Mountaineer Field. There is no better way for the Mountaineers to prove that they are contenders to the rest of the conference than by taking down the defending champs and with a sold out crowd at Mountaineer Field, West Virginia could have just enough home field advantage to pull off the big win. Other home games for WVU include match ups against Towson, Kansas State, Kansas, and TCU. Choose the games you want to attend and get your tickets from StubHub today.

The Team

West Virginia has struggled a bit since joining the Big 12 but based on their spring workouts it appears that their growing pains could be over. The Mountaineers should be one of the deepest teams in the conference which is an advantage as teams grind out the Big 12 regular season. What was once a young and inexperienced team is now loaded with veterans who know just what it takes to come out with a victory in the tough Big 12. Be there right from the start for what could be one of the biggest seasons in the history of Mountaineers football.

The Experience

West Virginia Mountaineers home football games have always been thrilling but since making the move to the Big 12 two seasons ago the stakes have been raised even higher and there is a renewed energy at Mountaineer Field. Screaming at the top of your lungs for your alma mater or favorite school and watching the elite athletes give one hundred percent for school pride and a shot at playing at the next level is one of the most intense feelings in all of sports. College football fans set aside their entire Saturday to be a part of everything that comes with the game. These hard core fans get up early and head off to the stadium parking lot for tailgating before the game. Once inside the stadium, fans join together to make as much noise as possible and help the home team leave with a victory. It is incredibly thrilling to be in the crowd when the star player takes the ball into the end zone for a big win. When you head out for a West Virginia Mountaineers football game you are sure to experience all of the excitement that comes with a top tier college football game. The parking lot at Mountaineer Field is always filled with people getting ready for the big game, grilling up some grub and sipping on a few beverages as well. It's all one big lead up to the main event, which is the game itself. There is absolutely no better way to spend a Saturday off than by attending a college football game, cheering and celebrating with thousands of other hard core fans.

West Virginia Mountaineers Big 12 Football

The Mountaineers play in the Big 12 Conference, powerhouse football conference that features some of the most exciting games in all of the sport year after year. The first Big 12 conference football game was held in 1996, and since 2012 it has played a nine game round-robin style regular season which determines a champion rather than using a championship game as some other conferences do. The traditional powerhouses in the conference include Baylor, Texas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State but every team in the conference is solid and capable of beating any other team. Baylor will be entering the season as the defending champions but the 2014 season should be as close of a battle as last year's and any team could finish the year at the top of the conference standings.

West Virginia is one of the most successful programs in the history of NCAA football, ranking 14th in total wins. However, the Mountaineers also have the dubious distinction of having the most wins in college football history without having won a national championship. WVU has had a football team since 1893 and the team has won a total of 15 conference titles, 8 while playing in the Southern Conference and 7 while playing in the Big East.
