For decades, the Wilshire Ebell Theatre has brought arts, culture and theater to the citizens in Los Angeles looking for it. Created by the Ebell women's club, the theater continues to draw major music and theater acts. It's renowned for hosting major figures in the entertainment industry (Judy Garland) as well as other luminaries from throughout society (Amelia Earhart).
The Ebell women's club was founded way back in 1894. It's named after Adrian Ebell, a doctor and educator who believed it was essential that women be exposed to higher education just as much as men should. The Ebell club sought to give women opportunities to enrich themselves through lectures, concerts and other arts events.
