Winnipeg Jets Playoff Tickets

Winnipeg Jets Playoff tickets

Winnipeg Jets History

The current incarnation of the Winnipeg Jets was founded in 1999 as the Atlanta Thrashers and relocated to Winnipeg in 2011. Sending a team back to Winnipeg was appropriate, as the Winnipeg Jets first existed in the NHL from 1972 to 1996 before the franchise moved to Phoenix to become the Phoenix Coyotes. Hockey fanatics in Winnipeg were starved for another NHL team and enthusiastically welcomed the return of a Winnipeg Jets team. When season tickets first went on sale to the general public the packages sold out in minutes, proving that Winnipeg is an exceedingly viable market for an NHL team. While in Atlanta, the franchise only managed to make to playoffs once in 12 years but now the Winnipeg Jets appear to be turning things around. As the Jets take to the ice for another big playoff game, the only place to be is the stands, where you'll actually be a part of the action in a way that you simply can't anywhere but the arena. Be there for all of the highlight-reel saves, eye-popping goals and big hits that will have you jumping out of your seat in no time.

About the Team

The Jets currently sit in 6th place in the loaded Central Division of the Western Conference and stand a chance of passing Dallas, and possibly Minnesota with a strong finish to the regular season, potentially making the playoffs. The Jets have a strong penalty killing unit that ranks fifth in the NHL, and if some of the other aspects of their game can catch up, the Jets will be a force to be reckoned with. The offense is led by center Bryan Little who leads the team in points and assists, while captain Andrew Ladd and leading goal scorer Blake Wheeler also set the pace for an offense that finally seems to be finding its groove. Goalie Ondrej Pavelec anchors a stout defense that can really take the Jets places with a little more improvement. Now is the time to get on the Winnipeg Jets bandwagon as they appear to be ready for some big things. With hockey back in Winnipeg, it looks like the best years are ahead of the Jets as they look to get back to the top of the NHL.

The Experience

Hockey fans in general are some of the most passionate sports fans around, but nothing quite matches the fanaticism surrounding the NHL playoffs and fans of the Winnipeg Jets are some of the most dedicated and vociferous fans in the entire NHL. On game day at the MTS Center the fans file in and take their seats and that is when the cheering and chanting begins. As the clock winds down closer and closer to the dropping of the puck the crowd works itself into a frenzy. Finally both teams are ready for face off and the excitement really begins. Thunderous, bone rattling hits, incredible displays of speed and agility, powerful slapshots, and tremendous saves set the arena on fire for the following three periods of world class college hockey. By the time the final buzzer sounds your voice is hoarse and your palms are stinging from clapping and giving high fives and you will already be planning a return trip. Everything is ratcheted up a notch during the NHL playoffs and the further teams advance the more intense the competition becomes. If you thought regular season NHL games were exciting, just wait until you experience an NHL playoff game live and in person.

NHL Western Conference Central Division

The Central Division is currently made up of seven teams: the Chicago Blackhawks, the Colorado Avalanche, the Dallas Stars, the Minnesota Wild, the Nashville Predators, the St. Louis Blues, and the Winnipeg Jets. The conference is a perfect mix of some of the oldest and most storied franchises in the history of the sport in the Chicago Blackhawks and the St. Louis Blues, along with some of the newer teams who joined the NHL in the NHL's expansion between 1998 and 2000 including the Minnesota Wild, the Nashville Predators, and the Winnipeg Jets (who joined as the Atlanta Thrashers before moving to Winnipeg and taking the previous franchise's name). The Blackhawks have been the most successful team in the division of late, having won the Stanley Cup in 2010 and in 2013. Six Stanley Cup winners have come from the Central Division, two by the Chicago Blackhawks and four by the Detroit Redwings who are no longer in the division.

Trivia

The Jets were forced to play their first two seasons in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the NHL because that was where the Atlanta Thrashers had played. Fortunately, prior to the 2013 season, the NHL realigned its conferences and the Jets are now in the Central Division of the Western Conference and not forced to endure such frequent long travels.
