About the Show
93.9 The River is one of the
most popular radio stations in and around the Detroit area and any concert it promotes is sure to be well attended. Since
the first year the station decided to put on the event it has always been quick to sell out and the 2013 show is certainly
no exception. Tegan and Sara have been one of the hottest bands in the world since they first burst onto the music scene with
their hit single "Walking with a Ghost" and they continue to churn out the hits with each subsequent album. Fans are always
eagerly anticipating Winter Icebreaker, knowing that their favorite adult alternative radio station The River will not disappoint.
This year by bringing in Tegan and Sara and Walk Off the Earth!, 93.9 definitely knocked it out of the park. This is one show
that people will be talking about for the rest of 2013 and well into the New Year!
in 2009, Winter Icebreaker really started to make a name for itself as one of the premiere annual concerts in the entire Midwest.
People had been talking about the stellar performances and unbelievable party atmosphere of the event from previous years
and perhaps finally due to enough word of mouth the 2009 Winter Icebreaker was a smash hit and sold out almost immediately.
City and Colour, Serena Ryder, William Elliott Whitmore, and Neverending White Lights were chosen to perform at the concert
and the level of enthusiasm from the bands as well as the concert goers was unlike any other previous Winter Icebreaker. After
that event, many in attendance decided then and there that Winter Icebreaker is an event not to be missed, no matter how inclement
the winter weather may be on the date of the show. The quick sell outs of Winter Icebreaker has allowed 93.9 to invite bigger
and better names to perform as the years have gone on, culminating with this year's score of Tegan and Sara.
Upon entering the Fillmore Detroit, you are immediately aware that you have stepped into a venue steeped
in musical history and on a Winter Icebreaker date the sensation is even more intense. The entire venue is made over into
a winter wonderland and the magic of the holiday season is definitely in the air. Special vendors are on hand to provide holiday
snacks and treats in addition to the typical rock show memorabilia which you will certainly want to get your hands on before
leaving the building so you have something tangible to help you remember this night. After making your way into the performance
area you are stunned by the attention to detail put into the construction of the concert hall and by the time the opening
act belts out the first few notes, the acoustics of the hall become the real star of the show. Every sound is warm and perfectly
resonates to fill up the venue, creating the perfect concert atmosphere. Once headliners, Tegan and Sara, hit the stage you
will be primed to dance and sing along to all of your favorite songs for the rest of the night as the party is just getting
started. Once the show is over you will immediately start discussing the highlights with your friends and realize that you
have no choice but to come back next year.
Winter Icebreaker is held at Fillmore Detroit, a multi
use venue that has been a fixture in Motown since 1925. Between the grand lobby, the two levels of seating, and the bar and
grill there is plenty to enjoy at this outstanding venue that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
There is simply no better place in Detroit to catch a show and when a can't miss event like Winter Icebreaker is there offering
you an escape from the cold, there is simply no reason not to make your way to Fillmore Detroit.
