Winter Meltdown – The 2014 Event

The most highly anticipated music event of the season will be happening again in Norfolk, Virginia, the celebrated home of the best local radio station 96x FM – the station that has been leading the charge in modern rock in the Hamptons ever since its inception. Get your tickets and your best concert buds and get ready for a truly amazing event in a vibrant city of fun and rich culture that is unparalleled among cities along Chesapeake Bay. Make the most of the incredible variety of entertainment, arts, nightlife and music that only one of the most hip and historic waterfront cultural centers in the United States can provide. Before you and your friends head on over to the exciting Winter Meltdown event of 2014, be sure to check out the Mermaid Winery – the first among urban wineries in the state – or the world-famous and unquestionably elegant Chrysler Museum of Art where you can see real-life glass blowing. Within the diverse and distinguished city of Norfolk, you can enjoy the harbor and countless rivers in whatever way you please – from the view of your hotel room, on a relaxing sail boat, or with adrenaline-pumping water sports.

If you would prefer to spend more of your time crunching through the snow in a winter wonderland, Norkfolk, Virginia can provide that too. The winter season sees the city's multitude of beautiful parks blanketed in pure white snow that enhances any holiday feelings. Be sure to trek through the spacious and beautiful scenery of the Norfolk Botanical Garden, Town Point Park, or through the grounds of St. Paul's Church. A number of historically rich museums are available for the viewing of more culturally-inclined visitors, such as the Moses Meyers House, the Hunter House Victorian Museum, or the Hampton Roads Naval Museum. Whether you are dining at one of the panoply of gourmet restaurants and funky diners, pre-partying at some of the most happening bars and clubs, or winding down with a stroll through the scenic streets, the city of Norfolk will always provide a stimulating experience that can be matched only by the excitement and amazing tunes of the Winter Meltdown concert event itself.

About Winter Meltdown

The 96X FM Winter Meltdown will once again be held at the elegant, spacious, and state of the art Ted Constant Convocation Center on Hampton Boulevard. This incredible space contains no less than 9,100 seats and is found on the gracious Old Dominion University campus. The establishment would be added to Norfolk's plethora of premier music venues in 2002. The Ted Constant Convocation Center is part of a University Village project that involves a number of shopping and restaurant establishments that provide a convenient complement to your Winter Meltdown concert experience.

Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, the fast and furious outfit Rise Against will be bringing their best vitriol and punk power chords as well as truly sweeping melodies and irresistible choruses. The hardcore band is perhaps best known for their rousing hit songs "Re-Education (Through Labor)," ""Savior," and "Help Is On The Way."

Next on the billing is Provo, Utah natives Neon Trees. This slick quartet would kick off the decade with a number of insanely catchy indie pop, dance, and new wave hits that have earned them comparisons to Bloc Party and the Killers. Neon Trees' hit singles include "Everybody Talks" and "Animal."

HAIM is an exciting addition to the evening. This trio of sisters from the San Fernando Valley in California has developed a pop and rock sound that blends synth styles from the 'eighties and Fleetwood Mac. Their band moniker is simply the sisters' surname, and they would explode on the rock scene in 2006 after a stint in a family band entitled Rockinhaim and a childhood steeped in Motown, Santana, the Beatles, and Joni Mitchell.

Banks, the unique and highly idiosyncratic performing identity of Californian Jillian Banks, first entered the music scene with her video uploads in the early part of 2013. By the end of the year, her Massive Attack- and Fiona Apple-inspired musical output would gain her so much traction in the contemporary music scene that she would be an opener for the Weeknd.

Rounding out the roster is Bleachers, a project centered around Jack Antonoff, the guitarist from quintessential power pop ground Fun. The rest of the members of the band are part of Antonoff's other band Steel Train which predates Fun. Their first hit single is "I Wanna Get Better."
