About the Show

96x is one of the most popular radio stations in and around the Norfolk area and any concert it promotes is sure to be well attended. Since the first year the station decided to put on the holiday event, it has always been quick to sell out and the 2013 show is certainly no exception. Fall Out Boy have been one of the hottest bands in the world since they first burst onto the music scene with their hit single "Sugar, We're GOing Down" and they continue to churn out the hits with each subsequent album. Fans are always eagerly anticipating 96x Winter Meltdown, knowing that their alternative rock radio station 96x will not disappoint. This year by bringing in Fall Out Boy, Capital Cities, MS/MR, The Neighbourhood, New Politics andthe 1973, 96x definitely knocked it out of the park. This is one show that people will be talking about for the rest of 2013 and well into the New Year!

Breakthrough Event

Last year's Winter Meltdown really set the bar high when 96x was able to bring in some of the hottest acts in alternative music to perform at the extravaganza. Fun., Of Monsters and Men, Silversun Pickups, Imagine Dragons, The Last Bison, and Atlas Genius all performed and the crowd was simply blown away. There are few other events anywhere near Norfolk, Virginia that could boast such a top notch lineup and 96x fans definitely were appreciative of the effort put forth by the station to put on such an incredible show. Attendees of the show were blown away by all of the impressive performances and many vowed to come back every subsequent year especially if the station continued to bring in such amazing bands. Clearly 96x brought in some heavyweights with their 2013 line up and one can only imagine that the future will continue to be bright for Winter Meltdown.

The Experience

Upon entering the Constant Convocation Center, or The Ted as it is known locally, you are immediately aware that you have stepped into a venue steeped in musical history and on an 96x Winter Meltdown date the sensation is even more intense. The entire venue is made over into a winter wonderland and the magic of the holiday season is definitely in the air. Special vendors are on hand to provide holiday snacks and treats in addition to the typical rock show memorabilia which you will certainly want to get your hands on before leaving the building so you have something tangible to help you remember this night. After making your way into the performance area you are stunned by the attention to detail put into the construction of the concert hall and by the time the opening act belts out the first few notes, the acoustics of the hall become the real star of the show. Every sound is warm and perfectly resonates to fill up the venue, creating the perfect concert atmosphere. Once headliners, Fall Out Boy, hit the stage you will be primed to dance and sing along to all of your favorite songs for the rest of the night as the party is just getting started. Once the show is over you will immediately start discussing the highlights with your friends and realize that you have no choice but to come back next year.

Headliners Fall Out Boy took an indefinite hiatus in 2009 citing personal reasons, and band leader Pete Wentz wanted to spend more time with his new wife and less time in the spotlight. The band had always planned on trying to get together for another album and they finally reunited in 2012. While a new album has yet to surface, the band has continued to perform and play some of the major festivals around the world. The Constant Convocation Center, or The Ted, which opened in 2002 is located on the campus of Old Dominion University and is home to the school's basketball team.
