Woody Guthrie was born in 1912 and lived through some harsh times. Many of his songs reflected his experiences during the
Dust Bowl era and the Great Depression. Guthrie was coined the "Dust Bowl Troubadour," while traveling with migrant workers
from Oklahoma to California. He took to their traditional blues and folk songs, and began to croon about the extreme working
conditions they faced. He is best known for This Land is Your Land.
Many of Woody Guthrie's recorded songs are archived in the Library of Congress. Generations of musicians have followed
in Guthrie's footsteps and have acknowledged him for inspiring them, including his song, Arlo Guthrie, Bruce Springsteen,
John Mellencamp, Bob Dylan and Billy Bragg.
