It's fitting that World Party's first album is entitled Private Revolution, because that's exactly what it was to band founder, Karl Wallinger. After a brief stint in a band called Waterboys in the mid-80s, Wallinger left to form World Party. He created much of the music by himself, recording the music in his home. World Party's debut album yielded two minor hits in the UK entitled "Private Revolution" and "Ship of Fools." The latter did better outside of the UK, hitting No. 4 in Australia and No. 21 in New Zealand, and No. 27 in the U.S. World Party's second album Goodbye Jumbo, contained the single "Way Down Now" and "Put the Message in the Box" that were subtle commentaries on the political environment of the late 1980s. They became minor hits on the UK charts, and album was nominated for Grammy Award as the "Best Alternative Music Performance." Over the next few years, the Wallinger continued to produce hits that pop and alternative music fans could identify with. His Beatles-esque sound made his music easy to listen to, and popular among fans of all generations. At the height of the band's success, Wallinger suffered an aneurysm that left him unable to speak. Through many years of rehabilitation, the singer and band front-man wereable to get back in front of the microphone and come back to his first love. He made his return to the stage at the South By Southwest music festival in Austin. Wallinger struck a deal with the Seaview label to redistribute his music and he began playing concerts.
