West Virginia Mountaineers Schedule in 2013-14

The West Virginia Mountaineers are ready to go for the 2013-14 NCAA basketball season, prepped to take on some of the best teams in the country. This is one of the top programs in the NCAA ranks for college hoops, and this year's team has a lot of promise. With a roster filled with talented players, this group is looking to make a real dent in the Big 12 Conference this year. The team has a lot of tough matchups on their schedule, which makes for a lot of good games for fans to enjoy. The Mountaineers play in the Big 12 Conference, a league that features some of the best teams in the country year in and year out. Last season the Mountaineers struggled to seal victories during conference play, notching a 6-12 record against Big 12 opponents on their way to a 13-19 overall mark. It's never an easy road to the top of the conference standings, but the Mountaineers are focused on playing well one game at a time at home this season in an effort to climb up the ranks of the Big 12 this season. It should be a great season of WVU hoops.

The Mountaineers have a big matchup coming their way when the Baylor Bears visit WVU Coliseum this season. The Bears have some really talented players, and it's going to be a tough game for West Virginia to emerge from with a victory. Slowing down Baylor big man Isiah Austin will go a long way in setting the tone in this matchup, but the Mountaineers are going to have to see a great fan turnout as well. Having a great crowd behind the team could make all the difference when the Mountaineers face a quality opponent like Baylor. This should be a fantastic matchup to see in person.

The Mountaineers may face their toughest challenge of the 2013-14 season in their final home game of the regular season when they host the Kansas Jayhawks in Morgantown. The Jayhawks have an incredibly talented squad, headlined by the number one recruit in the country in swingman Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins is one of the favorites to be the top pick in the NBA Draft in 2014 and should be a real handful for the Mountaineers to handle. Another player that the Mountaineers will try to contain is Joel Embid, the freshman center that is setting college hops on fire with his rapid development. If West Virginia can slow down these talented freshman, they could have a real shot at stealing this one at home. This should be one of the most watched WVU basketball games of the season, and it's always great to finish out the home schedule with a victory.

West Virginia Mountaineers History

The West Virginia Mountaineers basketball program dates a long time, but the first time this program really made national waves was in 1959, when the team made it all the way to the National Championship Game but fell short of one last victory. The Mountaineers have made more than 20 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Final Four twice. The team's most recent appearance in the Final Four came in 2010. The team is still searching for its first National Championship, and fans are hoping that this is the year that they'll break through and with it all.
