2014 Wyndham Championship History

The Wyndham Championship is a professional golfing tournament that is a part of the Professional Golfers Association Tour. This event was first established way back in 1938, and has a rich history of fantastic golf being played over its four-day period. The course totals more than 7,000 yards and has a par of 70. Some of the best golfer have participated in this event, and the great Sam Snead won it an astounding eight times during his illustrious career. Originally the event was known as the Greater Greensboro Open before eventually settling on the Wyndham Championship. 1961 saw a landmark moment in the sport of golf when Charlie Sifford became the first African American golfer to play in a PGA event in the southern part of the United States of America. Past winners include Sergio Garcia, David Love III, Chi Chi Rodridguez and other notables.
