X-Fest – 2014 Concert Schedule

Now in its fourth year, Calgary's X-Fest has continued to
bring some of the best musical acts in alternative music to fans for two days packed full of good times and good tunes. In
conjunction with Union Events, Calgary's alternative radio station X92.9 started X-Fest in 2001, and it has since become one
of Canada's most exciting alternative music events. Previous performers have included Blink-182, Linkin Park, City and Colour,
Silversun Pickups, Fun., Awolnation, Mother Mother and plenty more of your favorite alternative rock bands. In addition to
its stellar lineup, the X-Fest typically has a variety of food vendors and beer gardens to keep you entertained in between
This year, the Arctic Monkeys and Jack White are slated to headline at X-Fest. The Arctic Monkeys have been fixtures
of the alternative rock scene since their debut in 2006. Their debut album, "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not,"
became the fastest selling debut album in Britain's music history, with over 360,000 copies sold in just its first week. To
date, the album has been certified five times platinum in the United Kingdom. Their impressive debut album has often been
ranked on various "best of" lists, including being ranked as number 19 in NME's 500 greatest albums of all time.
White has likewise remained a dominant force in the alternative rock genre, with the release of the White Stripes' acclaimed
album, "White Blood Cells." The album has been ranked as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone, and
it served as a catalyst for Jack White's rising career. After the White Stripes disbanded, Jack White embarked on his solo
career, releasing his debut album in April of 2012. The album, titled "Blunderbuss," was massively successful, and it debuted
at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 138,000 copies sold in just the first week. "Blunderbuss" went on to receive several
Grammy Award nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Rock Album.
In addition to Jack White and the Arctic
Monkeys, this year's lineup will include Cage the Elephant, the Smalls, Fitz & the Tantrums, Serena Ryder, the Airborne
Toxic Event, MS MR, the Mowgli's, Sleeper Agent, Until the Ribbon Breaks, and more.

Events to create the event, and the first X-Fest had a lineup comprised of Jane's Addiction, Weezer, House of Pain, Awolnation,
Social Distortion, The Rural Alberta Advantage, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, and more. Since then, X-Fest is better than ever

Which member of one of this year's X-Fest bands was initially a writer
before becoming a professional musician?
Before he became a professional musician, Mikel Jollett worked as a freelance
writer and wrote for publications like NPR, Men's Health, and the Los Angeles Times. One of his short stories was also published.
Since its inception, Calgary's X-Fest has become the prime summer event when it comes to alternative
music. With headliners like Jack White and the Arctic Monkeys, and supporting acts like Fitz & The Tantrums, MS MR, the
Airborne Toxic Event, Death Cab for Cutie, and Foster the People, this year's lineup represents some of the best alternative
