some of the coolest sounds on the indie electropop scene. From songs like "I'm in Love with a Ripper" to "Psychic City," they
continue to be one of the most innovative acts within their genre. This duo is now hitting the road on an upcoming tour, and
they are slated to visit a variety of venues, including Denver's Bluebird Theater, the Record Bar in Kansas City, New York's
Mercury Lounge, Boston's Brighton Music Hall, the Hoxton in Toronto, and more. When Yacht heads to a venue near you, be sure
to check out their incredible show!
Led by Jona Bechtolt, Yacht has been making some of the
hottest dance tunes around since their debut. They've never been one to be pinned down in one genre, and some have called
their music synthpop, dance punk, and electropop. Whatever you want to call their music, it's clear that the fans love them.
Yacht got their start in 2002 when it was just a solo project for Jona Bechtolt. During this time, Jona recorded and released
three albums, the first of which was "Super Warren MMIV," which garnered praise for its whimsical sound and interesting electronic
tunes. Following up with his second album, Jona went on to release "Mega," and later, "I Believe in You. Your Magic is Real,"
which was the first album to feature appearances by his future bandmate, Claire Evans.
By 2008, Claire Evans had become
a permanent part of the Yacht lineup, and she would later be featured heavily on the band's album, "See Mystery Lights." The
album was the first to be released through DFA Records, and it proved to be a move in the right direction for Yacht. Garnering
praise from various magazines and critics, the album was also included in the New York Times as a "Critic's Choice."
couple of years later, Yacht further expanded on their sound by adding a live band to their concert performances. Known as
"Yacht and the Straight Gaze," the band consists of musicians Jeffrey Brodsky and Rob Kiewswetter. In 2011, Yacht followed
up their DFA Records debut with their second studio album, "Shangri-La," which contained popular tracks like "Dystopia (The
Earth Is On Fire)" and "Utopia," and they continue to dazzle fans with their trippy, out-of-this-world sounds.
Yacht initially began as a solo project for Jona Bechtolt, and he named his solo project after an
alternative school in which he was enrolled while he was a teen. Called "Young Americans Challenging High Technology," Bechtolt
used the first letter of each word and later came up with "Yacht." During this time, Jona had released a number of albums
under the Yacht moniker, including "Super Warren MMIV," "Mega," and "I Believe in You. Your Magic is Real." Once Claire Evans
had secured her place in the Yacht lineup, the duo was poised to become a breakout hit, and they did just that with their
first album on DFA Records, titled "See Mystery Lights." Claire Evans seemed to be the last piece of the puzzle, because with
her onboard, Yacht went on to dazzle their listeners and critics. They have since joined tours from the likes of the Yeah
Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, Dirty Projectors, The Postal Service, and more, and they are hitting the road once again for
a highly anticipated tour. You will definitely want to check them out when they visit a venue near your city.
Besides working with Yacht, Claire Evans maintains a profession doing what?
In addition to creating music
with Yacht, Claire Evans also works as a journalist. She maintains a popular blog called Universe, which is part of National
Geographic's Scienceblogs online community. Her essay titled "Moon Art: Fallen Astronaut" was even included in "The Best Science
Writing Online 2012." In addition, Claire has also co-authored the book "New Art/Science Affinities."
