Taiko drummers "Yamato" was first created in Yamto-no-kuni (country of Yamato), today's Nara prefecture, in 1993 by Masa Ogawa. The group's first performance was during a festival at the Toichi shrines in Kashihara-shi, Nara, where their name and Ogawa's self-composed piece "Hyuga" was created. What started with four performers has grown to 17 and includes both males and females.
