Finding influence in his mother's storytelling, Youssou D'Nour first began performing in Dakar, Senegal with the group
the Star Band of Dakar before taking lead and renaming it Super E'toile De Dakar. The up-tempo beats of mbalax allowed the
group to travel to Europe, exposing Dour's high ranging vocals to international acts willing to work with the producer.
Senegal native Youssou N'Dour created mbalax music in the '80s and '90s that incorporated a modern approach to his homeland
tunes, eventually allowing him to collaboration with mainstream artists like Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Neneh Cheery and
others. If you want to see this influential act still performing today, get Youssou N
Dour tickets now!
A former headliner at the Amnesty International Human Right Now! tour in 1988, along with Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen,
Sting and Tracy Chapman, Youssou N'Dour is a well recognized artist though his tunes aren't that common. With the widely
distributed album "Set" in the late '80s, he had established his stronghold in the industry, allowing his concert
tickets to continue to sell today.
