The Zac Brown Band was formed by Zac Brown, an Atlanta-born singer, songwriter and bandleader that formed his first group
in 2002. Just a year into it he had created his Home Grown label (today's Southern Ground) and released Home Grown that same
year. The band hit the road and quickly became known for their amazing live performances. The Zac Brown Band has worked with
influences from genres like country, bluegrass, reggae, and artists such as James Taylor and Jimmy Buffett, to create a sound
that has cross-cultural appeal.
Since 2009, the Zac Brown Band has earned 55 award nominations from the Grammys, Academy of Country Music, American Music
Awards, Country Music Association and Country Music Television, and has won seven. They have received four nominations for
the 2009 CMA Awards: New Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year, and Music Video of the Year for their No.
1 single, Chicken Fried. That same year, they received three Grammy nominations for Best Country Album, Best Country Performance
By a Duo or Group With Vocals and Best New Artist. The Zac Brown Band was also nominated in 2009 for three ACM awards, Album
of the Year, Top Vocal Group, and was one of eight contenders for Entertainer of the Year. The Zac Brown Band led the nominees
for the 46th annual Academy of Country Music Awards 2011, with a total of nine nominations including: Top Vocal Group of the
Year, Album of the Year, Single Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Vocal Event of the Year.
Their first major-label album The Foundation (2006) featured these first-place singles: Chicken Fried, Toes and Highway
20 Ride, which helped catapult the band to national stardom. In 2009, the band went on their first major tour to support the
album, which included opening for the Dave Matthews Band. They also began work on their next album, which culminated into
2010's You Get What You Give. It was praised as a more consistent work than their previous album, but it also continued a
Zac Brown Band tradition of marrying influences from across the musical spectrum. The band's tribute to Jimmy Buffet in Toes,
the tropical lifestyle anthem, paid off when Buffet joined them in recording the song, Knee Deep. They additionally collaborated
with fellow country artist Alan Jackson. Their identity now established, the band went on tour again and continues to tour
today!
