The Boston Red Sox are one of baseball's original franchises, founded in 1901 as a charter member of the American League. With nine World Series championships and 14 AL pennants, the Red Sox carry a legacy that stretches across every era of the sport. Fenway Park, their home since 1912, is the oldest active ballpark in Major League Baseball and one of the most iconic venues in all of professional sports. The park's intimate layout, its towering left-field wall known as the Green Monster, and the energy of a packed crowd on a summer night create an atmosphere that sets the standard for what a ballpark experience should feel like.
The franchise won five of the first 15 World Series ever played, capturing titles in 1903, 1912, 1915, 1916, and 1918. Early rosters featured Cy Young, Tris Speaker, and a young Babe Ruth, who helped lead the 1918 championship before being sold to the New York Yankees in 1919. That transaction kicked off an 86-year championship drought and one of the most storied rivalries in professional sports. The drought ended in dramatic fashion in 2004, when the Red Sox became the first team in MLB history to come back from a 3-0 series deficit in the ALCS before sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. Three more titles followed in 2007, 2013, and 2018, making the Red Sox the first franchise to win four World Series trophies in the 21st century.
Red Sox fans are among the most devoted in baseball, drawing support across all of New England and well beyond. Fenway Park sold out 820 consecutive games between 2003 and 2013, a record across all major American professional sports. The eighth-inning singalong to Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" has become a signature tradition, and "Dirty Water" by The Standells plays after every home victory. Rivalry series against the Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays consistently generate some of the most electric atmospheres of the season, with a fanbase that brings generational knowledge and genuine passion to every game.
