AJ Tracey Tickets
Born in 1994, AJ Tracey is best known as a rapper and grime MC from London. A performing musician since 2009, Tracey's real name is Che Wolton Grant. The Guardian newspaper declared that Tracey was one of the 'best new acts' worth catching on the festival circuit in 2016. Although he is primarily associated with the capital's grime scene, Tracey is equally at home performing hip-hop and trap music. The performer was considering a career in criminology before turning to music full time. He dropped out of a course in criminology at London Metropolitan University to concentrate on performing for a living.
AJ Tracey's career milestones
When Tracey first got going in music, he was known primarily for his mixtapes. In 2012, he put out a mixtape called Didn't Make the Cut, for digital download. At this time in his career, Tracey was using the stage name Looney, which he sometimes shortened to Loonz. In August of 2014, he put out another successful mixtape, again as Looney. This was called No More Looney. Appropriately enough, it was soon after this that Grant chose to start using the stage name that he is now best known for.
By 2015, Tracey was ready to start putting out material that better reflected his own personality. Up until then, he had mostly been rapping as a part of a collective called My Team Paid, alongside other hip-hop artists such as Wax, Sketch, Big Zuu and Jay Amo. Appearing on some pirate stations in the Ladbroke Grove area of West London, Tracey began to make a name for himself and his debut EP that came out in June of that year. The Front was followed up later in 2015 by Alex Moran, another EP, which featured the standout track “Spirit Bomb”. The rapper rounded the year off with two further EPs, Left Back and AJ's Stocking Filler, both of which came out in December.
With so much music produced in one calendar year, Tracey took it easier for a while in 2016. That year saw his music being used to promote television football coverage, and a collaboration with Santan Dave to work on remixing a Ruff Sqwad track. Nevertheless, towards the end of the year, the rapper put out a new EP called Lil Tracey. “Buster Cannon” and “Pasta” were songs taken from it as singles.
In 2017, Tracey released Secure the Bag! He also featured in the new kit reveal show for his favourite football team, Tottenham Hotspur FC. During the general election of that year, Tracey appeared in a Labour Party promotional video, endorsing the party.
