The son of Michael Gilbert and Yoko Takebe, two violinists with the New York Philharmonic, it’s unsurprising that Alan Gilbert followed in their footsteps and made music his career and passion. He was born in 1967 in Manhattan and from an early age received violin, viola and piano lessons. Alan Gilbert is a classically trained violinist and conductor who studied at some of the world’s most prestigious music schools, such as Harvard University, the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School of Music. Music and cooperation
Throughout his career, Alan Gilbert has dedicated himself to the mentoring of younger generations of musicians and conductors. In 2011 he became Director of Conducting and Orchestral Studies at his Alma Mater, Juilliard School, and he was also the first person to hold the William Schuman Chair in Musical Studies there.
