Alison Krauss Tickets
Alison Krauss TicketsAlison Krauss is a bluegrass musician known for her soprano voice and talents on the fiddle. Krauss also plays piano and mandolin, and she typically sings a mixture of ballads and more upbeat tunes. Her accomplishments speak for themselves with 27 Grammy wins and 42 nominations. This puts her at the top of the Grammy list as the most awarded singer and female artist of all time.
An Early StartKrauss was born in Decatur and grew up in Champaign, Ill. As a young girl, she started taking lessons in classical violin under her mother's encouragement, and she soon switched her focus from classical music to bluegrass. When she was only eight, she started performing solo on stage, forming her own band by the age of 10. Being named the "Most Promising Fiddler in the Midwest" by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass in America should have been a good indication that she was primed for widespread success. Her first recording was on the album Different Strokes in 1985 when she was still just a teenager. She signed her first contract with Rounder Records in 1987. At this time, she had also partnered with songwriter John Pennell and the band Union Station. She still plays with this band, and the other members include Larry Atamanuik on percussion, Barry Bales on the bass, Ron Block on guitar and banjo, Jerry Douglas on dobro and Dan Tyminski on guitar and mandolin. During her decades-long career, she's released both solo and group work. In addition to her more than two dozen Grammy Awards, she has won several other awards. They include 14 International Bluegrass Music Association Awards, nine CMA Awards, two CMT Music Awards and two Academy of Country Music Awards. She has also received an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Berklee College of Music. Paying homage to their hometown talent, the city of Champaign named her old block "Honorary Alison Krauss Way." Her work has taken her around the world, including to the White House and the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
