The Story
A story of hope and love, the story follows the journey of American soldier Jerry Mulligan in post-World War II Paris. Uncertain whether to return to the U.S. or stay in Paris, his desire to pursue his love of painting and an encounter with a mysterious woman lead him to stay. With help from fellow veteran and friend Adam Hochberg and Henri Baurel, son of a French Industrialist, he makes Paris home. Soon, he meets his lady of mystery. She is Lise Dassin, a French ballerina and the same woman he and Adam have been encouraging Henri to propose to.
Jerry’s introduction to the vibrant Parisian art scene turns his luck for the better. His future becomes clear and so does Henri’s as each is called to a different path. Lise comes to realize she faces a choice between love and devotion. At the end of the performance that establishes her as an accomplished ballet artist, she understands where her heart lies. All that remains for her is to embrace her future.
