An Indian Summer Tickets
An annual one-day event, An Indian Summer takes place in London in August. The event is often described as offering a journey into the heart and soul of South Asia. It is designed to celebrate Indian cuisine, music, theatrical performances, dance and culture in all of its forms. The inaugural event was held at the Hammersmith Apollo in the summer of 2017, a venue that has gained a Bronze Status for disabled access, awarded to it by Attitude Is Everything.
An Indian Summer's experience in the capital
An event that is suited to people of all ages and cultural backgrounds, An Indian Summer is best described as a multi-sensory extravaganza. The exhibits and performers on show are designed to achieve nothing less than the faithful recreation of the sights and sounds of India, as if one had stepped into the streets of New Delhi, Mumbai or Kolkata. The London-based event, held in late summer, provides what the organisers call 'a fun filled day out' for all of the family.
In accordance with wishes of An Indian Summer's organisers, the use of an iconic British venue, in the form of the Hammersmith Apollo, marks something of a departure from other Indian-based festivals. Similar events at Leicester, for example, had used more open locations, such as the city's Cathedral Gardens, for a rickshaw display. The stage area and raised seating of the Hammersmith Apollo lend themselves to cinematic experiences, which is perhaps why the first festival included some of the best of British Asian as well as contemporary Bollywood cinema. Festivalgoers at An Indian Summer in 2017 were delighted by screenings of Gurinder Chadha’s epic Evergreen, for example. Other past screenings have included the ever-popular Bend it Like Beckham.
An Indian Summer is no mere Asian film festival, however. The stage is also used for live Bollywood dance performances. Visitors have experienced Indian henna artistry displays and demonstrations. The event is also much loved by foodies. There are a large number of Indian street food stalls, which have a wide array of foodstuffs to try. These are located both inside and outside the venue. For visitors who have stayed until the end of the festival's programme of events, an exclusive after-party has been staged in the past. This features some well-known guest DJs operating in the British Indian music scene. At past events, the organisers have encouraged attendees to wear their finest Indian clothing.
