Performing her pop power ballad called "¡Ay, Amor!" off her third studio album, Pecado Original, at the OTI Festival in 1987, she took third place and her career began to take off. "¡Ay, Amor!" was a hit, spending 14 consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart. Following this success, Gabriel released her chart-topping album, Tierra de Nadie, in 1988. The album reached the No. 1 position on the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart, remaining on the chart for 73 weeks. The album sold over four million copies. Gabriel continues to perform to this day. Her music and stage presence has reached legendary status among Latin pop fans.
