The show then had a 2015 workshop that led to the show's world premiere at Connecticut's Hartford Stage on May 12, 2016. The show moved to Broadway and held its first preview on March 23, 2017, and its official Broadway premiere on April 24, 2017. Anastasia is a fictional tale that supposes that the Russian Tsar's daughter, Anastasia, survived the revolution in which the entire Russian Royal family was murdered by the Bolsheviks. In the story, Anastasia loses all memory of her life and lives as Anya, a street sweeper in Communist-controlled Russia. With the help of others, including two con men who were originally trying to profit from her resemblance to Anastasia, she tries to find out who she is and where she fits into the world.
