A member of the popular American female country trio, Pistol Annies (which also includes Miranda Lambert and Ashley Monroe), Angaleena Presley burst on the Nashville country scene in 2002. Since then, she has penned songs with such country powerhouses as Blake Shelton, Wanda Jackson and Mark D. Sanders as well as Lambert and Monroe. Her songs have been performed by various country stars including Ashton Shepherd and Heidi Newfield.
Presley has toured extensively around the United States and the United Kingdom, both by herself and as part of the Pistol Annies. Her lively style and poignant lyrics have drawn sizeable crowds to venues on both sides of the Atlantic.
Angaleena Presley's career
Angaleena Presley learned to play the guitar from her father at the age of 15, strumming the chords to Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried." Although she tried college, the pull of music and the Nashville scene was too strong. However, her path to fame wasn't an easy one. She initially struggled, but eventually garnered attention from various musicians and singers from Music Row.
Presley's story reads like a country song itself. Having moved to Nashville in 2000, she was down and out, going through a divorce, living in a poor neighbourhood and sharing a bed with her three-year-old when she got the call at 2am from Lambert and Monroe asking if she was interested in forming a group with them. The rest, as they say, is history.
Presley's collaboration with Lambert and Monroe, the Pistol Annies, quickly earned a contract with RCA, and their debut single, "Hell on Heels," was certified gold by RIAA. The group's first album, also titled Hell on Heels, debuted at No. 1 on the country music charts, while their 2013 follow-up, Annie Up, reached No.2. In 2014, Presley released her full-length solo debut, American Middle Class.
In addition to "Hell on Heels" and "American Middle Class" (her album's title track), Presley's most popular songs include "Knocked Up," "Look It Up" and "Pain Pills." She has been nominated for a number of prestigious awards, including American Country Music Awards' New Artist of the Year honor (with Pistol Annies) in 2011 and CMT's Group Video of the Year Award in both 2011 and 2012.
