Anne-Marie: award-winning collaborator
A winner of Double Gold at the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association World Championships in 2002, Anne-Marie has gone on record as saying that the sport of karate has given her the self-discipline to make it in the music industry. In 2013, the singer recorded a demo called "Summer Girl" and this brought her to the attention of many in the industry. Soon, Anne-Marie was featured as an artist on tracks for the likes of Raized by Wolves and Magnetic Man. The singer was invited to sing for Rudimental, too, which she did on their second album, We the Generation. A single was taken from this work, which included Anne-Marie's vocals. "Rumour Mill" ended up getting into the UK Singles Chart as a minor hit.
In 2015, Anne-Marie released her debut solo EP, Karate. At this time, the singer started to perform more regularly in her own right rather than as a featured artist. In November, she put out "Do it Right", and the single got to number 22 in Australia, where it was certified as gold-selling. The artist's next single was a much bigger hit. "Alarm" got to number 16 in the UK and was a hit in Germany, Ireland and Australia, among other countries. It was certified as platinum in the UK. Later in the year, the aforementioned "Rockabye" came out, which was a chart-topper all around the world, making Anne-Marie's name as a pop vocalist.
The singer returned in 2017 with "Ciao Adios", a song that was taken from her debut studio album. Moving into a Latin dance groove for the first time, this track made it into the top 10 in her home country, as well as scoring hits in Germany and Ireland. Later in the year, Anne-Marie was involved with a number one charity single, recorded by Artists for Grenfell. The performer then had another UK hit in her own right, with "Heavy".
