Anohni Biography - Hear New Album Hopelessness

Born Antony Hegarty, the singer moved from the UK to San Francisco before settling in Manhattan. Inspired by Boy George and the Culture Club's debut album in 1982, she felt accepted and embraced by New York's avant-garde community of artists and performers. Honing her craft in the after-hours bars, she sang, wrote and directed late night theatre productions. The singer went on to form Antony and the Johnsons in 1998, releasing a number of well received albums including the Mercury Prize winning LP I Am a Bird Now.

Through her increased profile, she has worked with some of the biggest musicians in the world, such as Bjork, Leonard Cohen and Rufus Wainwright. After adopting a new pseudonym, she recently unveiled her latest album Hopelessness. Produced byOneohtrix Point Never's Daniel Lopatin and Hudson Mohawke's Ross Birchard, the record is a searing indictment of modern politics, with provocative song titles such as 'Obama', '4 Degrees' and the outstanding single 'Drone Bomb Me', the music video for which features supermodel Naomi Campbell.
