Arab Strap - 1990s Heroes Hark Back to the Golden Age of Indie
Formed in 1995 at the midst of the Britpop boom, vocalist Moffat and multi-instrumentalist Middleton bonded over their mutual love of Drag City artists like Will Oldham and Smog. The boys from Falkirk, Scotland began writing together and their debut album was released under the independent record label Chemikal Underground. The Week Never Starts Round Here featured their biggest hit 'The First Big Weekend' which was hailed as 'one of the best songs of the decade' by BBC Radio One's DJ Steve Lamacq and was also used in a commercial for Guinness.
The pair's name also inspired Belle and Sebastian to name their third studio album The Boy With The Arab Strap, though this did cause some friction between them. Moffat and Middleton called it a day in 2006 with a final show in Japan, but have returned 10 years later to mark two decades of their music with a series of exciting celebratory concerts in 2016.
