Avenue Q Gravesend Tickets
Everyone's favourite coming of age story is on tour in the UK, and you'll want to be sure to purchase your Avenue Q Gravesend tickets today to experience the gripping story, music and performances surrounding the characters as they struggle with entering adulthood in a world they all feel so unprepared for.
Avenue Q is set in a borough of New York City and follows the coming of age story in which the characters (eleven of which are human, three of which are puppets) compare their lives as they are thrust into adulthood with the stories and lessons they were taught on television shows such as Sesame Street. The characters struggle with the realization that they are no more special than anybody else, something that they were not taught through children's programming. The musical uses catchy tunes and impressive puppetry to get their important message across.
Avenue Q has toured all over the world, travelling to UK and Ireland in 2011 and 2012, the UK and Hong Kong from 2014 through 2016 and Sydney in 2015. This tour follows five years of a run in West End and will play at the Woodville Auditorium in Gravesend in November of 2015 before appearing in other cities throughout the UK, including Hornchurch, Bristol, Liverpool, Belfast and London.
After appearing in an off-Broadway run in early 2003, Avenue Q debuted on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre on July 31, 2003, to major critical success. The show went on to perform 22 previews and 2,534 regular performances, and eventually closed its Broadway run in September of 2009. The year of its debut, the show was nominated for six Tony Awards, of which it won three: Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Original Book
While the cast has changed quite a bit since its original Broadway debut, this UK tour of the show features lead actors Sarah Harlington as Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut, Richard Lowe as Princeton and Rod, Stephen Arden as Nicky, Trekkie Monster and Bad Idea Bear, Richard Morse as Brian and Etisyai Philip as Gary Coleman, among many other talented actors.
Jeff Whitty wrote the book for the musical, with music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, who were co-creators of another hit musical, The Book of Mormon, and writers of the songs for Disney's hot movie Frozen. Whitty won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Book for his writing in Avenue Q, and went on to write other plays such as The Hiding Place, The Plan Project, and Suicide Weather. He is slated to write a musical titled Tales of the City: The Musical with music by pop group Scissor Sisters as well as a musical rendition of the popular film Bring It On.
Producers of this UK tour of Avenue Q include David Hutchinson, Phillip Rowntree and Richard Darbourne. Hutchinson and Rowntree are both seasoned theatre veterans and were trained at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. Hutchinson has produced other shows such as Dracula, Lord of The Flies, and A Christmas Carol. Rowntree also has an impressive resume, with over 50 productions under his belt. Darbourne produces commercial theatre and events, and he had a hand in producing the London 2012 Olympic Victories Ceremony.
