For the 2018 game, Elk Grove Village in Illinois took over the sponsorship. The Bahamas Bowl features NCAA Division I teams from the Mid-American Conference and Conference USA. To date, C-USA teams have won three games and MAC teams have won two games. Many of the previous Bahama Bowl games have featured major upsets or incredibly close games, making it a favorite among football fans. What notable players have been at the Bahamas Bowl?The Bahamas Bowl 2014 Offensive MVP, Brandon Doughty, was picked up by the Miami Dolphins as a seventh-round pick in 2016. The 2014 Central Michigan quarterback, Cooper Rush, began playing for the Dallas Cowboys in 2017. His teammate, Titus Davis, went on to play for the San Diego Chargers. The 2015 Bahamas Bowl also featured some notable players. Richie James was a seventh-round draft pick for the San Francisco 49ers, and Corey Davis was a round-one draft pick for the Tennessee Titans. In the 2016 Bahamas Bowl games, Travis Fulgham went on to be a round-six draft pick for the Detroit Lions. From the 2018 games, Jon'Vea Johnson was an undrafted free agent signed by the Dallas Cowboys. His father, Jason Johnson, played for the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints.

In 2015, Western Michigan was not expected to win since it had never pulled off a bowl win before. However, the team achieved its first bowl win with a score of 45 to 31 against Middle Tennessee.
