America’s BalletBallet West was founded by William F. Christensen and Glenn Walker Wallace in 1963. Christensen, known also for co-founding the San Francisco Ballet with his brothers, became Ballet West’s first artistic director. Under his guidance, the company formed the distinctly American style it is known for today. Marks’ Abdallah became the first American full-length presentation of the ballet. Three more directors followed Marks: John Hart, Jonas Kåge and Adam Sklute.
