The Baltimore Orioles were founded in 1894 as the Milwaukee Brewers, and the franchise also spent 52 years in St. Louis as the beleaguered Browns before relocating to Baltimore in 1954. Ever since, the Orioles have been a fundamental part of the sporting scene in Birdland, as fans have turned up to see legends like Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Cal Ripken Jr., Eddie Murray, Jim Palmer, Luis Aparicio, Roberto Alomar and others. Baltimore has put together some mesmerizing playoff runs over the years too, resulting in World Series titles in 1966, 1970 and 1983.

In 1971, aka The Year of the Bird, when the franchise advanced to the World Series for the fourth time since its move to Baltimore, four of the team’s starting pitchers — Dave McNally, Mike Cuellar, Jim Palmer and Pat Dobson all won 20 games, a feat that to this day has yet to be replicated. The Orioles posted a 101-61 record for their third-straight AL East title, but the defending World Series champs would fall to the Pittsburgh Pirates in seven games. Game 4, played in Pittsburgh, was the first-ever World Series game played at night.
