BB&T Atlanta Open TicketsThe BB&T Atlanta Open is an annual men’s tennis tournament that takes place during the summer. Featuring fast, hard-court action, the tournament is part of the US Open Series — a seven-week series of tournaments leading up to the start of the US Open in New York City. The history of the tournament dates back to 1921, when Indianapolis served as the main host. However, due to low sales, the ATP purchased the license from the tournament organizers in Indianapolis and sold it to a group in Atlanta. The group established a new tournament initially called the Atlanta Tennis Championships. During the inaugural tournament in 2010 at the Atlanta Athletic Club, Mardy Fish emerged triumphant over John Isner in three sets. Undeterred, however, Isner would later become the all-time leading Atlanta Open champion with five titles. He won the tournament in three consecutive years between 2013 and 2015 and again in 2017 and 2018. Andy Roddick and Nick Kyrgios also won the tournament in 2012 and 2016, respectively. What is the format of the tournament? The BB&T Atlanta Open features a 28-person draw made up of players from across the ATP Tour. Four of these players come from the 16-player qualifying rounds that take place during the first two days of the tournament. The BB&T Atlanta Open adheres to a single-elimination format. Each match is a best-of-three, meaning that the first player to win two sets advances to the next round. In the event of a 6-6 tie at the end of a set, tiebreaker rules apply. However, in the third set, the players keep on playing games until someone has secured a two-game lead. The doubles draw only features 16 teams but otherwise adheres to similar rules.
