Who is Carole King?
Considering that songwriters barely get the same recognition as performers in the music, it's understandable that you may not have heard of the legendary songwriter. Having written or co-written almost 120 pop songs in the US alone, along with a further 61 songs in the UK, she is single-handedly the most successful female songwriter in the UK singles charts between 1952 and 2005. Adding to that her four Grammy Awards, and inductions in both the Songwriter Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it's a safe assumption to say that Carole King success is now recognised the world over. Without giving too much away, Carole King began her career with songwriting partner Gerry Goffin, the two became involved and after King got pregnant (at the age of 17), the songwriting couple married and the two took on day jobs, writing together in the evening. Their work paid off, however, as they went on to write a number of classics including Aretha Franklin's "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and "Chains" which was later covered by the Beatles.
