As the soulful breakout star of Destiny's Child, Beyoncé has dominated the charts worldwide with over 100 million records sold and 23 Grammy Awards. Her solo discography features six studio albums, and each release has been certified platinum multiple times by the RIAA. The legendary R&B queen made her independent breakthrough in 2003 with Dangerously in Love, which was bolstered by chart-topping pop singles like "Crazy in Love," "Baby Boy" and "Naughty Girl." Its 2006 follow-up, B-Day, featured critically acclaimed collaborations with Jay-Z, including "Déjà Vu" and "Upgrade U." Beyoncé's next three records (I Am... Sasha Fierce, 4 and Beyoncé) all continued the artist's mainstream success and international recognition; furthermore, the releases generated several highly praised world tours, and "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" became a viral dance club sensation. In 2016, Beyoncé broke a record when all 12 tracks from her exclusive sixth album, Lemonade, simultaneously charted in the Billboard Hot 100.
From Destiny's Child to Beyoncé to Mrs. Carter
Beyoncé's musical career began in 1990 when she formed Girl's Tyme, which gradually morphed into Destiny's Child and featured Michelle Williams, Kelly Rowland, Latavia Roberson, LeToya Luckett and Farrah Franklin. The group's self-titled major label debut arrived in 1998 and witnessed a positive reception with lead single, "No, No, No," which was produced by Wyclef Jean. The record's follow-up, The Writing's on the Wall, launched Destiny's Child to serious prominence on the strength of "Bills, Bills, Bills," and "Say My Name." The eponymous single from the group's third album, Survivor, won the Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. It was during the group's hiatus after this period that Beyoncé launched her solo career and started a well-documented relationship with rap mogul Jay-Z. Their marriage has been emotionally explored in each performer's output, and the cathartic musical exposés have culminated in a joint album and tour titled The Carters in 2018.
