The Beyond Wonderland Music Festival series held its first event on March 20, 2010, in San Bernardino, Calif., at the NOS Events Center. A one-day event that sold out, it featured Paul van Dyk, Groove Armada and Robbie Rivera. While it showcases the top electronic dance music artists, this is not a typical EDM event. Attendees are taken to a live version of Alice in Wonderland that is created through cutting-edge stage production to deliver a psychedelic storybook experience.

Taking the EDM Experience a Step Further

Before EDM events became mainstream, they took place underground. Often, they were referred to as raves. For a long time, they were not even legal in many cities, mostly because they have always been on the psychedelic side. Now that major cities embrace these celebrations, the Beyond Wonderland Music Festival series can take the experience a step further. This festival series is known for its art installations as well as its array of dancers and performers. The organizers got their start by holding parties in Los Angeles warehouses in 1993. Nocturnal Wonderland first took place in 1995 and its sister event, the Electric Daisy Carnival, in 1997. In 2010, the Electric Daisy Carnival reached 185,000 attendees over two days. Beyond Wonderland debuted in 2010 to a sold-out crowd. The EDC had to be moved to Las Vegas in 2011 to accommodate attendance and reached mainstream status when the Las Vegas Mayor declared June 20-26, 2011, as "Electric Daisy Carnival Week."
