The radio-friendly pop music of Beyries
Beyries is a low-key solo singer from Quebec, who performs a whimsical type of pop, blended with touches of folk. Unusual for a Francophone artist, she has always sung mostly in English, with a few French-Canadian dialect album releases along the way. A cancer survivor, many of her songs deal openly and honestly with her own challenges, and have provided inspiration to many as a consequence. A Francophile hit song on an English album
Beyries has been touring and performing virtually non-stop since the beginning of her career, as is so often the case with solo artists when they are building their followings. She's something of an anomaly in her native Quebec, having released mostly English-language songs, with the sole exception being an album track on her debut release in 2016, "Landings". But this is quite a monumental song, and was instantly picked up on by the Francophile population of her local city. It didn't hurt that the song, "J’aurai cent ans", was a duet with an established French-Canadian pop crooner, Louis-Jean Cormier. Quebec radio immediately picked up on the song and it became a minor hit, paving the way for regional mainstream success. She followed this with a very successful summer season of touring, which took in several open-air festivals, and she was very well received at all of them. A definite highlight above the others was her inspired show at Quebec City Summer Festival. It's this kind of concert that you'll be after when you get Beyries tickets, so keep your ear to the ground and make sure you don't miss out.
Touring with bigger names in Canadian pop
Beyries has applied an almost fanatical work ethic to her live performance schedule, regularly crossing the country and playing at any venue that has a decent sound system – as well as plenty that haven't. Her days on the road have paid off in more than one way, garnering her a faithful live following that has translated very nicely into album sales, as well as landing her more prestigious gigs. These have included support slots on tours with the likes of Martha Wainwright. She's also opened for plenty of other artists, both contemporaries and peers, and those who have already forged bigger reputations on the French-Canadian music scene. She's shared stages and concert halls with Safia Nolin, Kandle and Groenland. She's also found another avenue of success in having her songs picked up for the soundtracks of popular Canadian TV shows.
