"Marauder Music" by Mike Posner was the first song that Musto wrote under BlackBear. His EP, The Afterglow, landed him a spot on the Billboard's Undercharted listing which helped him grow his fan base. At the time, BlackBear's music was primarily listened to by fans on SoundCloud. In 2015, the artist released Deadroses, his first full-length album. It featured ten tracks and was well-received by the public. "Idfc" was the lead single on the album and even charted on Billboard's R&B Hot 100. "90210" was the second single on the album and featured G-Eazy. Later in 2015, one of his tracks was played on a Netflix documentary titled Hot Girls Wanted.
