A chance meeting
Blacktop Mojo was founded in 2012 by singer Matt James and drummer Nathan Gills. The pair met by chance in a bar and discovered their mutual love of music. The next day, Nathan Gill went along to watch Matt James perform in a local coffee bar. This led to a jamming session at Nathan Gill’s house and Blacktop Mojo was born. Bass player Matt Curtis and two guitarists, Chuck Wepfer and Ryan Kiefer, completed the line-up. Recording their first album, "I Am", was a tough learning experience, with only two weeks in which to rehearse and prepare their songs. The critically acclaimed follow-up, "Burn the Ships" produced two Billboard Top 40 singles. As a child, Matt James' family was constantly on the move. As a result, he explains that he was exposed to, and influenced by, the varied genres of music played by local radio stations in different parts of the country. Blacktop Mojo themselves often perform acoustic sets for local radio stations while on tour. To experience this great band, buy or sell Blacktop Mojo tickets on StubHub today.
