Bluedot Festival: unashamedly geeky gathering
A summer festival that is a self-avowed geeky event, Bluedot Festival takes place at Jodrell Bank, in the heart of Cheshire. Located next to the huge Lovell Telescope, Bluedot Festival has made use of its iconic setting to attract an annual gathering of like-minded people. Not just a festival for music fans, it is also a celebration of all things science-based. Bluedot Festival features talks from leading experts in their fields, impressive art installations, and a programme of live music that rivals many of the larger summer festivals in the UK.
Held in July each year, Bluedot returns in 2019 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landings with a special weekend of music, science, arts and cosmic culture: so what are you waiting for? Buy Bluedot festival tickets now at StubHub.
Bluedot 2019: festival of science and technology
As mentioned, the love of science and all things technological is very much at the heart of what Bluedot Festival promotes. Speakers such as Sir Kostya Novoselov, Sally Cooper and Robert Minchin have all given informative talks in the past. Subjects like space exploration, giant radio galaxies and global warming have all been covered by speakers. With exhibitions that often feature hands-on experimentation, there's plenty to do. It is not all about space and physics, however – there's also a good deal for biology, ecology and chemistry fans to learn.
There's also a comedy stage at Bluedot Festival, which has attracted some top names in the past. For example, Richard Herring has performed his stand-up routine there, among others. The event organisers also put on a pop-up cinema, usually featuring a science-fiction movie or a show that focuses on scientific principles.
Perfect for people who like to get stuck into a little bit of learning, Wilderness is a festival that prides itself on its identity rather than its headliners (though they're pretty good as well!). High-profile performers who have taken to the Bluedot stage in the past include the likes of Alt-J, Orbital and Goldfrapp. The DJ, Mr Scruff, has also appeared, as has the talented DJ Yoda, while last year saw The Flaming Lips, The Chemical Brothers and Future Islands all headline.
