Bowie Baysox Tickets
The Bowie Baysox are the Double-A affiliate for Major League Baseball's Baltimore Orioles. The Baysox have been a staple of the Eastern League since 1993 when the Orioles relocated their Double-A affiliate to Bowie. This move also brought about a new name, which was left up to a fan vote. Baysox was chosen as a nod to the team's close proximity to Chesapeake Bay. The 2008 squad is arguably the best in the history of the Bowie Baysox as the team not only won 84 games, but it also captured the Minor League Player of the Year in catcher Matt Wieters. The team also consisted of center fielder Luis Montanez, the Eastern League MVP, and Brad Bergesen, the Pitcher of the Year. However, the 2008 team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. It wasn't until 2015 that the Bowie Baysox won its first Eastern League Championship. The team went into the postseason with the second-best record in the league on its way to the first, and only, championship to date. 2019’s squad made it to the finals but came up just short in its quest for a second championship. Prince George's Stadium is the home arena of the Bowie Baysox. The 10,000-seat stadium opened in 1994 after some construction delays caused the Baysox to play in other stadiums, like at the University of Maryland and the Naval Academy in Annapolis. For families looking for an evening at the park, there is a kids’ area that has a carousel, a bounce house and face-painting stands.Do the Bowie Baysox have any rivals?
The Baysox and the Trenton Thunder have developed a fierce rivalry that stems from the clash between the Yankees, who are the parent organization of the Thunder, and the Orioles. There is also a geographical-based rivalry between the Baysox and the Harrisburg Senators. The Senators, the Double-A affiliate of the Nationals, and the Baysox are the closest teams to each other location-wise, and their rivalry mirrors the Beltway Rivalry between the Nationals and the Orioles. Finally, the Baysox and the Richmond Flying Squirrels play in the Route 301 rivalry.Who is the Bowie Baysox manager?
2020 will see Buck Britton return for his second season at the helm of the Bowie Baysox. Britton became the first former Baysox player to ever serve as the manager for the team after he retired as a player after a nine-year career, seven of which were spent in the Orioles' organization. Britton started his coaching career in 2017 as a hitting coach for the Delmarva Shorebirds. In 2018, he was promoted to manager of the Shorebirds before being promoted once again to Bowie prior to the 2019 season. The 2019 season saw Coach Britton lead the Baysox to the second Eastern League Championship Series in franchise history while being named Eastern League Manager of the Year. Are there any notable players who played for the Bowie Baysox?
The Baysox long-term affiliation with the Baltimore Orioles means that many of the homegrown players that have come through Baltimore's farm system have spent at least a portion of their career in Bowie. Players like Manny Machado, Dylan Bundy and Chance Sisco are all former Baysox players. Austin Hays, Trey Mancini and Jonathan Schoop are also listed among Bowie alumni who have made a splash in the Big Leagues.Where can I buy Bowie Baysox tickets?
