In 1975, James Madison University built the Bridgeforth Stadium in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to support its growing athletic department. Its name honors William E. Bridgeforth, a former member of the JMU Board of Visitors. While the facility has been through several expansions and a couple of name changes, the James Madison Dukes football team has remained the venue's home team since its inception. It is currently the largest stadium available for the Colonial Athletic Association and 13th largest in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, with a seating capacity of over 25,000. Recent expansions ensure great viewing opportunities regardless of your location. The playing surface was named the Zane Showker Field as a tribute to a committed benefactor of JMU.
